Visual Information Processing (VIP)

Visual Information Processing (VIP) Laboratory belongs to the Information Systems and Sciences (ISS) Group at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University. It was established in September 2000 by Prof. Janusz Konrad.

The VIP Laboratory has three main objectives: research, training and technology transfer in the area of image, video and multimedia processing. It is home to several graduate and undergraduate students working on next-generation multimedia services, i.e., services that are expected to be:

  • natural (maximum realism of preception, for example by means of 3-D visualization),

  • efficient (minimum bandwidth usage by employing high-gain, scalable, robust compresssion),

  • flexible (adaptable to various needs, for example through embedded spatio-temporal data decomposition).
